Artecoll® and Artefill®

Artecoll & ArtefillArtecoll and Artefill will be the first FDA-approved injectable soft tissue fillers on the U.S. market.

Artecoll® and Artefill® are applications for facial soft tissue enhancement

Because the product is long lasting, Artecoll and Artefill are best used for filling facial problem areas, where a prolonged augmentation is desired. The most common regions of the face that benefit from Artecoll and Artefill enhancement include the nasolabial creases (laugh and smile lines around the mouth and nose) and “Marionette” lines (down-turned mouth corners). Additional applications include lip enhancement and lip augmentation, treatment of lip creases, softening of forehead frown lines, correction of nasal defects and improvement of scars and other facial depressions.

These fillers have a long track record of implant safety

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) was discovered in 1902 by the German chemist O. Röhm. After PMMA was patented in 1928, it found its first use for dental prostheses in 1936. Since then, PMMA has been extensively used as a medical implant replacing bone structure of the face and the remainder of the human skeleton.

Wide range of PMMA application in medicine

Aside from dental prosthesis, PMMA is successfully used as bone cement to replace lost skeletal structures. Because of its favorable qualities, PMMA found additional applications for implantable pacemakers and artificial eye lenses.

Unique technology for soft tissue enhancement

Artecoll and Artefill consist of microscopically small PMMA particles measuring less then 40µ. These inert microspheres have a smooth surface and are suspended in non-sensitizing collagen. In addition, Artecoll and Artefill contain lidocaine (a local anesthetic) for comfort during placement of the product.

Proven safety history for soft tissue augmentation

Used since the late 1980s, Artecoll and Artefill have a long track record for patient safety. Over the last 10 years, hundreds of thousands of patients have been treated successfully with Artecoll and Artefill worldwide. The soft tissue filler has been used by Dr. Fechner’s Canadian colleagues for years showing nearly 100% objective improvements resulting in high patient satisfaction.

Long lasting skin filler for soft tissue augmentation

Due to the product’s collagen vehicle, the patient will experience an immediate enhancement. While the injected collagen is naturally degraded over the next 2 to 3 months, the body forms its own tiny collagen capsules around the PMMA microspheres. This production of the body’s own collagen is responsible for the long lasting results and natural feel of Artecoll and Artefill. In addition, the collagen micro-capsules act as anchors for the product hereby ensuring precise location and preventing implant migration.
