CosmoDerm®, CosmoPlast® and Zyderm®Cosmoderm, Cosmoplasty and Zyderm are dermal filler substances made of collagen, the main building material of the skin. All of these skin filler substances are have FDA approval for their cosmetic application. The difference of Cosmoplast/Cosmoderm and Zyderm lies in the origin of the collagen: Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast are made of human collagen that has been biogenetically engineered in the laboratory; Zyderm is bovine collagen. Because of the slight difference in molecule composition of bovine and human collagen, Zyderm requires skin testing before it can be used safely. Because of the lack of advantages of Zyderm over Cosmoplast or Cosmoderm, Dr. Fechner does not offer Zyderm injections anymore for his patients. The concentration of human collagen within Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast varies for improved application of the dermal fillers in facial regions. The filler materials contain small amounts of local anesthetics in order to lessen the already minor discomfort during dermal injection of Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast with a tiny needle. The injected human collagen of Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast is slowly absorbed by the body without leaving any known residues. Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast last approximately 4 months, although the time varies depending on the patient’s characteristics and the anatomical region treated. More information about the skin filler injection substances used by Dr. Fechner can be found below:
