Restylane InjectionRestylane was FDA-approved as a dermal filler substance and it is used as injectable soft tissue filler in the treatment of bothersome wrinkles and for lip enhancement and lip augmentation. The active ingredient of Restylane is hyaluronic acid, a molecule naturally occurring in our skin and filling the space between collagen fibers.

Restylane is designed to reconstitute skin volume that has been lost during the aging process. Skin testing before injecting Restylane is not necessary. One of the main properties of hyaluronic acid includes its ability to bind water, which helps to maintain the skin’s pliability. These characteristics make the hyaluronic acid product Restylane a good choice as a skin filler.

Cross-linking of the hyaluronic acid molecules in Restylane prevents its naturally rapid absorption by the body and allows the Restylane to be present for several months.

Restylane is a clear gel-like substance and it is available in various concentration formulations (including Perlane and Restylane). This allows the facial plastic surgeon to mold the product for the specific requirements of the patient. Dr. Fechner performs the injection of Restylane with a tiny needle in his office (located in Worcester, Massachusetts).

Results after dermal filler injection are immediate with minimal to no local treatment responses of the skin. Restylane may last between 5 and 8 months depending on the region treated and the patient’s specific characteristics.
