This “Gold Standard” in non-invasive facial tissue-lifting technology can allow you to develop a more sculpted appearance in just one hour. Ultherapy revitalizes and firms the skin on your neck, chin, brow and decolletage area without the need for needles or scalpels. Dr. Fechner was one of the first in New England to acquire this technology after it received FDA approval. Our seasoned medical aestheticians have years of experience delivering hundreds of successful Ulthera treatments.

This treatment is based on ultrasound technology, the same sound waves used to harmlessly scan the body for medical imaging purposes. Micro-focused ultrasound energy tightens and lifts the deep foundational layer of tissue that doctors address in surgery. Energy is discretely and precisely deposited at multiple depths, heating tissue to an optimal level. A safe and effective alternative to a facelift or neck lift without a lengthy recovery, many patients see an improvement immediately after the treatment with further improvements observed over the following weeks as new and firm collagen is produced.

How does Ulthera lift the face and tighten the neck?

High frequency sound waves travel easily through skin and soft tissues. Ulthera’s smart technology allows for bundling of the ultrasound’s power and precise placement of energy deep into the skin. In contrast to conventional laser treatments, Ultherapy is designed to leave the superficial skin cover unharmed as it tightens the deeper muscle layer. This tissue layer is called the “SMAS”: surgical tightening of the SMAS allows Dr. Fechner to achieve long-lasting improvements with face and neck lifts.

In addition, new collagen will be produced over the next 3 to 4 months which explains why patients observe additional benefits after the treatment. Because Ultherapy can treat the face and neck in a balanced way, a natural appearance is the result of this non-invasive rejuvenation avoiding lengthy downtime, both benefits highly valued by our patients from all over New England.

Is Ulthera just another laser?

No, Ultherapy is not a laser. Lasers work by heat delivery to the skin through high energy light waves. The laser’s heat will vaporize skin tissue which is responsible for the relatively long recovery after most laser treatments. Principles of physics limit the laser’s ability to treat deeper tissues without harmful injury to the superficial skin. Ulthera uses ultrasonic waves that travel through the skin in order to be focused exactly where we want the tightening to take effect: deep into the skin at the level of the muscle layers.

Is Ultherapy safe?

Because Ulthera uses ultrasound energy, it proved to be a very safe non-invasive option for facial tightening and rejuvenation. Data available with 12 month patient follow up demonstrate safety and efficacy of Ultherapy. Therefore, Ulthera has passed the strict FDA approval process and is indicated for lifting of facial tissues and neck rejuvenation. Dr. Fechner feels confident that Ultherapy represents a great non-invasive facial tightening alternative for his patients from Worcester, Boston and beyond.

How long do Ulthera treatments take?

Most commonly, the whole face and neck are treated with Ulthera for the best and most balanced improvements. This treatment typically takes about 1 hour. If distinct facial regions are targeted for Ultherapy (i.e., forehead, cheeks, jawline or neck) you should reserve 20 to 30 minutes for your treatment.

How much bruising, swelling and downtime should I expect after Ultherapy?

The mild pinkness of the skin usually normalizes within an hour or so. Swelling is routinely minimal to none and there is no bruising associated with Ulthera treatments making this a truly no-downtime, non-invasive lifting procedure.

Does Ultherapy hurt?

Overall, Ulthera treatments are well tolerated by patients. Due to the focused ultrasound energy deposited deep into the skin surface, some mild discomfort may be experienced with Ultherapy. Although sensory response varies from person to person, some patients are aided by over-the-counter pain medications such as Tylenol or ibuprofen.

Prescription-strength medications are available in Dr. Fechner’s office but are usually not necessary for Ultherapy. After completion of the Ulthera treatment, patients routinely have no noticeable pain or discomfort.
