ActiveFX and DeepFX for TotalFX

Active FX Fractional Laser Our fractional laser skin resurfacing in Boston treatments represent the latest advancement in rejuvenation treatments for aging and sun-damaged skin. Initially know as Fraxel™, the new idea underlying fractionated laser skin treatments culminated in the development of the sophisticated Active FX and Deep FX. ActiveFX and DeepFX, developed by Lumenis, are considered by many experts to be the leaders in this exciting field of fast-recovery skin rejuvenation. Whenever considering any treatment, the prospective patient should remember that a laser is “just a tool, not magic”. Just like a scalpel blade, lasers are potentially harmful and it is up to the laser surgeon to put this technology to proper use for your benefit and safety.

What is Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Fractional laser treatments are the newest laser modes available for treatment of aging skin. The innovative technology is designed to target only partial volumes of the skin leaving “virgin” skin aspects in between for a rapid recovery. This treatment leads to an improved appearance of aged and sun-damaged skin by the production of new collagen. The face, neck and chest can effectively treated with fractional laser skin resurfacing.

How Does Fractional Laser Resurfacing Improve the Skin?

A laser (acronym for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation) works by sending a powerful and microscopically thin light into the skin. The light energy is then preferentially absorbed by the water that normally makes up about 80% of the damaged skin. Fine layers of surface skin are removed leaving untreated bridges of skin behind for faster recovery. The aged collagen beneath the skin surface is remodeled and strengthened leading to improvements of skin wrinkles and texture. As a result of the restructuring process, the skin will appear healthier, smoother and softer.

What are the Advantages of Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing with ActiveFX and DeepFX?

The revolutionary Encore DeepFX and ActiveFX laser treatments allow improvements after a single application. ActiveFX and DeepFX are fractional CO2 laser treatment. The downtime is minimal due to the fractionated approach to skin treatment. Because un-treated skin bridges are present for rapid healing, the treated microscopic columns of skin can be carried deeper for improved efficacy. The Worcester laser skin resurfacing surgeon is now in control to carry treatments deep enough without jeopardizing the patient’s safety.

How Does ActiveFX and DeepFX Differ from Fraxel?

The Encore ActiveFX and DeepFX technology represents fractional CO2 laser treatments. Because of their impressive efficacy, CO2 lasers continue to represent the “gold standard” in skin rejuvenation. Unfortunately, conventional CO2 laser treatments commonly came with an unacceptably long recovery. Encore ActiveFX and DeepFX treatments capitalize on the CO2 laser’s results but providing it with the fractional technology for rapid recovery. For conventional Fraxel™ treatments about 4 treatments are recommended for a reasonable result. In contrast, Encore ActiveFX and DeepFX will deliver significant improvements after just one application.

What is the UltraPulse ActiveFX Treatment?

Encore ActiveFX is a single treatment solution for aging and sun-damaged skin. It is optimally used for people who cannot afford a long recovery but still want improvements of dyschromias (sun-induced “age spots”), fine lines and wrinkles. The superficial ActiveFX treatment uses fractional laser beams to treat the skin surface leaving untreated bridges behind from where the quick recovery originates. During the treatment, the loose collagen contracts leading to softening of wrinkles and lines and improved skin texture. A faster return to one’s professional and private life is the result. Initially, you may feel like after a sun burn; after two days, the old skin will flake off. Depending on your skin type and treatment strength chosen, you may be able to wear make-up for camouflage of remaining pinkness.

What is DeepFX?

As the name implies, DeepFX reaches changes of the skin that originate away from the skin’s surface. Deep FX takes advantage of fractional CO2 laser treatments for fine and coarser lines, deep wrinkles, texture irregularities and scaring. All these skin abnormalities are due to changes deep within the skin and require realignment of renewed collagen. Although effective, conventional treatments required a lengthy recovery (old CO2 lasers or deep facial peels) or multiple treatments (conventional Fraxel™). Deep dermal skin layers are treated by laser micro-beams precisely targeting the skin’s collagen layers. Immediate collagen tightening leads to long-term collagen remodeling. Because this remodeling takes some time to mature, improvements may continue to evolve over 4 or 5 months. The remaining untreated skin bridges allow for a faster recovery.

What is TotalFX?

Most patients present with a combination of sun dyschromias, lines, wrinkles and some scarring. TotalFX allows the laser surgeon to address all of these issues in one treatment. Usually, DeepFX is performed first followed immediately by ActiveFX for total skin rejuvenation. Still, recovery time is shorter than conventional options of skin rejuvenation. The treatment takes about 30 minutes to complete. Although not necessary, Dr. Fechner recommends a light sedative taken by mouth upon your arrival in the office. A topical anesthesia cream is applied to the skin and allowed to penetrate for maximal efficacy. The TotalFX treatment is performed first and centered on the appropriate regions of wrinkles and scars (i.e., acne scars). ActiveFX follows to ensure balanced and comprehensive skin rejuvenation.
