A sagging or drooping forehead, upper eyelids and eyebrows can make a person appear aged, frustrated, or exhausted. If you are experiencing these and other aesthetic concerns with your forehead, a forehead lift is the ideal surgical procedure to permanently smooth out the forehead skin while restoring your eyebrows and eyelids to their natural, more neutral position. Forehead lifts can also be combined with a hairline lowering procedure to bring your hairline down to a more aesthetically pleasing position.
Choose one of Boston’s best facial plastic surgeons for the most elegant and natural forehead lift results available. Dr. Frank Fechner is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon with a solid reputation as an expert in forehead lifts and hairline lowering and boasts a keen aesthetic eye, a perfect track record, and open ear for his patient’s many cosmetic concerns. Curating the ideal tailored treatment plan, Dr. Fechner can have you looking more youthful, relaxed and personable within a few hour’s time.
A forehead lift is an elective surgical treatment that corrects sagging and wrinkled skin in the forehead, eyebrows, and upper eyelids, promoting a more youthful appearance. The procedure involves trimming away excess skin tissue and modifying or tightening the muscles that are causing droopy or hooded eyebrows and eyelids. The procedure is typically done on an outpatient basis without hospitalization.
Forehead lifts can be combined with various other procedures, such as an eyelid surgery, a facelift or a rhinoplasty, for more integrated results. They’re also quite effective in their own right.
Hairline lowering, also known as a forehead reduction surgery, aims to reduce the forehead’s overall height. Forehead reduction surgery aims to lower the hairline to enhance your facial proportions and anatomy. The procedure involves excising the excess portion of forehead skin to bring the hairline down to a more desirable position.

Forehead lifts are generally done on patients over 40 who have excessively sagging, drooping, or wrinkled foreheads. However, they can also be done on younger patients with lower eyebrows that give them a sad appearance or an excessively large-looking forehead. You’re likely a good candidate for a forehead lift and/or a hairline lowering procedure if you have:
Beyond the general requirements mentioned above, candidates should also meet the basic requirements necessary for all surgical procedures: Being of sound mind and in good overall physical health. Realistic expectations for the procedure are also important, and many of our Boston forehead lift patients are pleasantly surprised with how much more youthful they look following the procedure. Underlying medical conditions that increase the risk of surgical complications will be assessed for. Dr. Fechner will carefully examine your facial skin and scalp health, review your medical history, and discuss your goals for the procedure to determine if you’re a suitable candidate for the treatment.
After a forehead lift surgery, you’ll briefly visit our observation room, where you’ll be monitored for a few hours to ensure you don’t have an adverse reaction to the surgery or anesthesia. Most patients can return home the same day, with a friend or family member driving them home.
You’ll experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort that is well-managed with pain medication. Incisions should be kept clean. The sutures will be removed in a follow-up session about a week later. Most patients can resume work within 2 weeks and resume all activities and exercises in 4 weeks. Following the procedure, you will be given a helpful and detailed set of recovery guidelines, and you will have a means to contact us directly in the rare event something unexpected were to occur, or should you simply have questions as recovery progresses.

On behalf of the entire team at Fechner MD Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa, we would like to take a moment to say thank you again for your loyalty and support during this unprecedented time. The past several months have been unlike anything we've ever experienced, and we're working hard to evolve so that we can continue to provide you with the patient experience you have come to expect from our practice.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic, Fechner MD Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa has taken extreme precautionary measures, in addition to following the most up to date CDC recommendations and state guidelines to maximize the health and safety of our patients, staff and facility. Our surgical center and medical spa remain committed to providing the best patient care, and we are actively working to take all necessary precautions as we plan to safely re-open our practice. Please help us continue to protect the health and well-being of our patients and workplace by cooperating with all of our precautionary measures and protocols against COVID-19 at your next appointment, or as you plan for your surgery.
As a fully accredited surgical facility, Fechner MD has always observed the highest level of safety and sanitation. In fact, as a surgeon, Dr. Fechner is an expert in infection control. We want to ensure that we are doing everything possible for our patients to safely return for surgical and medical spa treatments alike.
The upgraded work flow and safety protocols we have implemented at Fechner MD far exceed those being recommended by any government agency.
Fechner MD will adhere to all local, state, and government mandates. We expect to cautiously resume medical spa and injectable treatments during Phase 2 of the Massachusetts phased reopening. We are awaiting a definitive date from Governor Baker. Cosmetic surgery is expected to resume during Phase 3 of Governor Baker’s plan. We ask for your patience and understanding as our staff is working diligently to reschedule all surgeries and procedures affected by our closure. Please understand that in order to open and adhere to Massachusetts guidelines, we will need to limit the number of staff and patients we have in our building and extend the time between patient appointments in order to sanitize rooms. This means we will have fewer available openings for procedures. In order to maximize our provider appointments, we will continue to hold consultations virtually rather than in person, with a few exceptions (body contouring, Instalift, vein treatments).
We thank you in advance for your patience throughout this time, and we look forward to seeing you here again as we begin to resume business operations. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Fechner MD Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa at (508) 754-4000 and our team will gladly assist you. Thank you!
