Asian patients who would like to refine the appearance of their nose and minimize imperfections or flaws can receive Asian rhinoplasty. This unique procedure maintains the features of the nose that speak to their ethnicity and heritage, while also smoothing flaws and helping to achieve your ideal nose.

What is Asian rhinoplasty?

Asian rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to create an aesthetically pleasing nose that achieves an ideal appearance while speaking to your Asian heritage. Asian rhinoplasty harmonizes with Asian facial features, taking into account common Asian nasal structures and qualities, including reduced cartilage, thicker nasal skin, and flared nostrils. Dr. Fechner will take your unique nasal bone density, nostril size, and the length of your nasal bridge into account while performing your Asian rhinoplasty.

Benefits of Asian rhinoplasty

Asian rhinoplasty provides many benefits for patients. The procedure is specially customized to your specific needs, while also respecting your ethnicity. Benefits include the following:

  • Preserves your Asian heritage
  • Resolves nasal flaws and unwanted aspects of the appearance of your nose
  • Enhances and improves the shape, symmetry and size of your nose
  • Takes special consideration of your unique skin type and scarring potential
  • Achieves balanced, harmonious facial features
  • Corrects a deviated septum

What happens during the Asian rhinoplasty procedure?

While there are similarities of the underlying nasal structure for Asian patients, each patient’s nose is unique and has different asethetic requirements.

Asian noses tend to have low bridges and rounder, wider tips, causing the nose to appear shorter and flatter. To heighten a low nasal bridge, cartilage grafts or an implant may be used to add desired projection and dimension.

Your Asian rhinoplasty will begin with general anesthesia. From there, Dr. Fechner will use custom techniques to achieve the precise changes you would like made:

Closed rhinoplasty

This technique is ideal for more finite, precise changes to the nose. During closed rhinoplasty, small incisions are made inside the nostrils, through which Dr. Fechner can make changes and refinements that require less significant restructuring.

Open rhinoplasty

This rhinoplasty technique is more involved, ideal for complex or significant alternations. During the procedure, small incisions are made on the outside of the nose. Dr. Fechner will make these inisions carefully so that they are hidden in the natural folds of the skin. From there, Dr. Fechner will then lift the nasal skin, exposing the underlying nasal structures. He will then make significant, complex changes to the nasal structure.

Recovery after Asian rhinoplasty

After your rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Fechner will place an external splint and tape over your nose to help it heal properly in the right shape and position. After one week, he will remove the splint. Expect swelling and bruising during this time, which will fade after about two weeks. Use cold compresses to help with the swelling, and keep your head elevated. By two weeks post-procedure, many patients feel comfortable returning to sedentary work.

Nasal swelling will continue, decreasing over a period of months. This can sometimes cause changes in the appearance of the nose, but this is normal as you heal from your rhinoplasty procedure. It may take up to 12 months for the nose to “settle” completely. At that point, your final results will be apparent.

Who is a candidate for Asian rhinoplasty?

Candidates for Asian rhinoplasty are men or women who reshape their nose without losing the features that speak to their heritage. The best way to determine whether you’re a candidate for rhinoplasty is with a detailed consultation with Dr. Fechner. He will examine the anatomy of your nose and its relationship with your other facial features, go over your medical history, and understand your concerns and aesthetic goals. He will determine whether you’re a good candidate for Asian rhinoplasty, and discuss the procedure in detail.

Generally, ideal candidates for Asian rhinoplasty surgery meet the following requirements:
