For most patients, implants and a surgery come to mind when they consider lip augmentation for perkier, more pronounced and attractive lips. But these aren’t their only options. Patients can significantly enhance and contour their lips with dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane. Lip fillers augment, hydrate, and contour the lips without requiring a surgery, incisions, implants, or a downtime period for recovery.

Lip augmentation with dermal fillers typically last for 6 months, but these results can be extended with a brief maintenance visit. Boston’s premier facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Frank Fechner, and his providers specialize in delivering carefully-calibrated fillers to produce natural aesthetic results according to your unique cosmetic expectations.

Lip Augmentation with Dermal Fillers

Lip fillers are hyaluronic acid-based cosmetic injectables that enhance your lips’ volume and contours without requiring implants. Hyaluronic acid, or HA, is a biocompatible and biodegradable gel that adds volume, elasticity, and moisture to your skin. Over time, age and external environmental factors such as sun exposure and pollutants minimize your skin’s ability to produce hyaluronic acid naturally, which often necessitates a dermal filler boost for more attractive lips.

Lip injections in Boston add this essential moisture-binding component into your lips to provide an immediate enhancement. Since HA is naturally found in the human body, it’s readily accepted without complications. But it’s also gradually metabolized, leading to beautiful but temporary results, that last for 6 to 12 months. Patients can also repeat the treatment to restore or maintain the results.

Besides augmenting and enhancing lip volume, fillers also provide other benefits. HA can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, allowing it to moisturize and hydrate your lips. As such, lip fillers make your lips appear dewy, vibrant and healthy. They can also fill cracks and wrinkles, producing a softer and more supple texture.

Lip Augmentation Consultation

During a personal consultation, you and Dr. Fechner will discuss your cosmetic concerns, goals and expectations. He’ll observe your lips and how they appear when they’re animated to recommend the best plan of action, including determining the right type, volume, and placement area for fillers. From a wide variety of fillers available, including Juvederm and Restylane, the one most suitable for your particular concerns is selected.

Expert injection marks the difference between beautiful and mediocre results.

Lip Augmentation in Action

After selecting the appropriate brand of filler, Dr. Fechner curates a treatment plan. He carefully marks the injection sites on your lips to guide the treatment. Next, local anesthesia is administered to numb the injection sites, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable experience. Finally, he injects carefully-calibrated amounts of the fillers into the dermal layers of your lips to produce the desired result. Dr. Fechner is conservative with his treatments, injecting only as much filler as necessary to produce natural enhancements, unless you request otherwise, which can also be accommodated.

Recovery After Lip Augmentation

Following the procedure, you'll likely experience mild swelling and redness around injection sites, perhaps accompanied by slight discomfort. You should avoid massaging or touching your lips for a few days, and should avoid direct sun exposure, strenuous activities, or alcohol consumption for 24 to 72 hours. You’ll sleep with your head elevated for one night, such as on two pillows. Other than those minor recovery guidelines, you can usually resume most of your daily activities and work immediately. Results will be evident immediately and last for 6 to 12 months, depending on the type of filler used and how fast your body metabolizes it.

Who Makes an Ideal Candidate for Lip Augmentation in Boston?

Lip augmentation in Boston with fillers is ideal for patients who want more voluminous, prominent and well-defined lips but without undergoing implants or surgery or requiring a downtime. Because their components are biocompatible and biodegradable, lip fillers are suitable for most patients.

Patients who are pregnant or nursing should not receive dermal fillers. Dr. Fechner will review your medical history and ask some simple additional questions to ensure you’re a suitable candidate for the treatment.

WHEN WILL FECHNER MD PLASTIC SURGERY & MEDICAL SPA OPEN?

Fechner MD will adhere to all local, state, and government mandates. We expect to cautiously resume medical spa and injectable treatments during Phase 2 of the Massachusetts phased reopening. We are awaiting a definitive date from Governor Baker. Cosmetic surgery is expected to resume during Phase 3 of Governor Baker’s plan. We ask for your patience and understanding as our staff is working diligently to reschedule all surgeries and procedures affected by our closure. Please understand that in order to open and adhere to Massachusetts guidelines, we will need to limit the number of staff and patients we have in our building and extend the time between patient appointments in order to sanitize rooms. This means we will have fewer available openings for procedures. In order to maximize our provider appointments, we will continue to hold consultations virtually rather than in person, with a few exceptions (body contouring, Instalift, vein treatments).
