Restore Youthful Look with Forehead Lift

A sagging or drooping forehead, upper eyelids and eyebrows can make a person appear aged, frustrated, or exhausted. If you are experiencing these and other aesthetic concerns with your forehead, a forehead lift is the ideal surgical procedure to permanently smooth out the forehead skin while restoring your eyebrows and eyelids to their natural, more neutral position. Forehead lifts can also be combined with a hairline lowering procedure to bring your hairline down to a more aesthetically pleasing position.

What a Forehead Lift is

A forehead lift, also known as a brow lift, is an elective surgical treatment that corrects sagging and wrinkled skin in the forehead, eyebrows, and upper eyelids, promoting a more youthful appearance. The procedure involves trimming away excess skin tissue and modifying or tightening the muscles that are causing droopy or hooded eyebrows and eyelids. The procedure is typically done on an outpatient basis without hospitalization. Forehead lifts can be combined with various other procedures, such as an eyelid surgery, a facelift or a rhinoplasty, for more integrated results. They’re also quite effective in their own right.

Who Makes a Great Candidate For a Forehead Lift?

Forehead lifts are generally done on patients over 40 who have excessively sagging, drooping, or wrinkled foreheads. However, they can also be done on younger patients with lower eyebrows that give them a sad appearance or an excessively large-looking forehead. You’re likely a good candidate for a forehead lift if you have:

  • Deep creases between the eyes
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Sagging eyebrows
  • Drooping upper eyelids
  • Low eyebrows
  • Skin laxity in the scalp

Beyond the general requirements mentioned above, candidates should also meet the basic requirements necessary for all surgical procedures: Being of sound mind and in good overall physical health. Realistic expectations for the procedure are also important, and many of our Boston forehead lift patients are pleasantly surprised with how much more youthful they look following the procedure. Underlying medical conditions that increase the risk of surgical complications will be assessed for. Dr. Fechner will carefully examine your facial skin and scalp health, review your medical history, and discuss your goals for the procedure to determine if you’re a suitable candidate for the treatment.

What is Recovery Like After a Forehead Lift?

After a forehead lift surgery, you’ll briefly visit our observation room, where you’ll be monitored for a few hours to ensure you don’t have an adverse reaction to the surgery or anesthesia. Most patients can return home the same day, with a friend or family member driving them home. You’ll experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort that is well-managed with pain medication. Incisions should be kept clean.

The sutures will be removed in a follow-up session about a week later. Most patients can resume work within 2 weeks and resume all activities and exercises in 4 weeks. Following the procedure, you will be given a helpful and detailed set of recovery guidelines, and you will have a means to contact us directly in the rare event something unexpected were to occur, or should you simply have questions as recovery progresses.
